2023 is the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. The base, in Fujian at the core of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, is serving national Belt and Road construction. On April 21, it signed with the Fujian FTZ Xiamen Area and Jimei District to co-build the National Language Service Export Base under a “tripartite co-construction, mutual empowerment” model for an internationally influential language service platform.
Three features of the base’s language service export work:
- “Language leading culture, culture and language together” — Language learning combined with cultural experience
- “Language bridging culture, culture through Baizor” — Language communication promoting cultural identity
- “AI empowering language services” — Technology driving education change
Language services empowering Chinese enterprises abroad
Xiangyu Group: Job Chinese crash training for Indonesian employees
On April 10, 29 employees from Xiangyu Indonesia OSS were reciting the “class motto.” This followed the 2022 online short-term Chinese crash course (52 employees) with a new offline intensive course.
An Indonesian employee said: “Before we could only talk to teachers online; now meeting them again is very exciting.” Trainees had comprehensive Chinese, applied Chinese, and industry Chinese aligned with their work. The project serves the Xiangyu 2.5M-ton stainless steel project and builds a new paradigm of language services for Chinese enterprises going global.
Mengjia Network: Chinese training for multinational staff
Mengjia Network (national cultural export key enterprise) in Xiamen also partnered with the base. From September 2022, 16-week online Chinese training was provided for Turkey branch staff and Brazilian, Russian, American employees and families. From “a o e” to fluent expression of love for Chinese culture. Turkish trainee Hakan said: “I look forward to coming to China and Xiamen to experience five thousand years of Chinese culture and this beautiful city.”
Pre-arrival courses: Supporting overseas youth studying in China
The base offers pre-arrival Chinese courses to help overseas students adapt to studying in China, paving a new silk road for cultural exchange with language services.
